I am a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Politics at the University of Sydney. I have held visiting positions at Oxford University, Princeton University, and the University of Notre Dame. I hold a PhD in Government from Harvard University.

I am the author of the award-winning Conservative Party-Building in Latin America: Authoritarian Inheritance and Counterrevolutionary Struggle (Oxford University Press, 2021) and the co-editor of Life after Dictatorship: Authoritarian Successor Parties Worldwide (Cambridge University Press, 2018). My latest book, Authoritarianism: A Very Short Introduction, was published by Oxford University Press in 2024.

Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, I have been happy to call Australia home since 2015.
